The REAL TRUTH AMFA WON'T TALK ABOUT!
After the mid 90’s, the McCormick Advisory Group funded
nearly 20 newly created “independent associations” designed with the task of
weakening the traditional airline unions. Why was the founder of this group,
Kevin McCormick on the AMFA payroll?
After AMFA won representation of the 10,000+ mechanics and
related at NWA on June 1, 1999, they began funneling millions of dollars to the
McCormick Advisory Group. LM-2 statements show that AMFA paid approximately $16
million dues dollars to McCormick by 2004. Why?
Why was Kevin McCormick, who had never been in a union,
given so much decision making power in the fate of the AMFA members? He could
not be recalled.
Why didn’t the members have any power to elect or fire
McCormick who was essentially making all the contractual decisions for the
members and the union?
On August 20, 2005, AMFA led the Mechanics of Northwest
Airlines out on a strike with no preparation, no financial support, and without
ever allowing the membership to see or vote on the companies’ last best and
final offer. Why was this hidden from the membership? What about “transparency
and democracy”??
In the weeks preceding the strike, NWA openly gathered over
1900 mechanics to step in and keep the airline operating. Other union groups at
the carrier desperately pleaded with AMFA against going it alone afraid that it
would weaken all of their positions. Why did AMFA support the carriers plans
against all employees by ignore all these warnings?
AMFA had virtually no funds to support a strike and had to
rely on other unions for donations to help purchase picket signs and offer a
very modest payment for strike duty. Why doesn’t AMFA believe in a strike fund?
Why did AMFA abandon the mechanics at NWA after the failed
strike and why did they surrender their representational rights at Delta after
the NWA/Delta merger? Why didn’t AMFA run a campaign at Delta?
AMFA had over 18 thousand members in the early years of 2K
but has dropped to less than 2,800 according to LM-2 filings in 2010. This decrease
also represents declining numbers at current carriers represented by AMFA. Is
my job in jeopardy with AMFA?
After AMFA lost a vast majority of its members on a failed
strike and had dissatisfied many more, why did they give O.V. Delle-Femine a Golden
Parachute of $560,394? (According to the 2008 LM-2 filed with the Department of
Labor)
Why does AMFA routinely request “voluntary” dues assessments
from members in order to fund normal representational duties such as
arbitrations and negotiations?
AMFA weaves repayment for fees and expenses incurred during
negotiations but they do not guarantee retro pay for members. In the 2005 to
2009 agreement with UAL, AMFA asked for reimbursements of up to $1 million
dollars for “expenses” incurred through negotiations. Shouldn’t this money have
gone to the members they represent?
Why does AMFA continue to gamble thousands and thousands of
member dues dollars on risky mortgage backed securities? (According to US
Department of Labor records)
With all its close ties to the real estate market, why
doesn’t AMFA own any property?
AMFA claimed to have enough cards to file for representation
at American Airlines in 2013, yet after being served required notice that an
approaching deadline was immanent, AMFA still did not file claiming they
“forgot” to relocate the cards to Washington DC. How could they fail their
membership supporters so irresponsibly?
Why is AMFA international offices in Aurora Colorado?
After the merger between ATA and Southwest, why did AMFA
allow WN mechanics to rape the smaller ATA group of their seniority in exchange
for equal pay? How would AMFA treat other airline mergers? Will AMFA take my seniority?
Why did AMFA abandon the mechanics at Mesaba after the
merger with Pinnacle?
In December 2010 Mesaba Air Management approached AMFA leadership
and offered to pay the maintenance base Mechanics at LaGuardia Airport in NYC a
much desired $2.00 an hour cost of living allowance. Why did AMFA turn down
this much needed COLA for one of the most expensive cities in America?
The two Airlines represented by AMFA happen to have the two
most union friendly managements. In spite of this, AMFA can not make progress
in negotiations with the Southwest contract which became amendable in 2012. What will AMFA do at an airline with a
hostile relationship? How much will they give up to arrive at an agreement?
In December 2008 AMFA negotiated a cost neutral contract at
Southwest which delivered raises in exchange for work rule improvements and
contract flexibility. WTF?
Why did AMFA agree to allow Southwest Air to send work to
South America?
Why did AMFA agree to allow United Airlines to send work to
China?
AMFA began representation at Alaska Air in 1998 then stood
by as the paint shop, the crew seat shop, the net shop, the recon shop, the
composites shop, the wire shop, the APU shop and the sheet metal shop were all
farmed out. Is it true that AMFA exchanges wage increases for a smaller
seniority list?
